…am I the only one who finds it odd

So here I am in a post apocalyptic scene…crumbling building…sleeping on a old cot…rummaging for sustenance.  Yet, my hair is the perfect shade of blonde…my  beard that perpetual 3 day shadow, manicured razor sharp …most importantly my chest n’ abs smooth and perfectly waxed…..

I guess it always pays to look pretty.

…not much left

The other day I am futzin’ around, (old guy…enough said) and the Kaleidoscope group pops up and Krys says that she is gonna change the sim.  Pretty much stopped me in my tracks.  Keleidoscope is one of my favourite sims to visit and shoot pictures in.  It has that rural feel that seems to be difficult find here.  I know, I know…truth be told it just makes me nostalgic for my youth and simpler times.  Really I am not a romantic or a sentimentalist…my story and I am sticking with it.

I have talked to Krys a couple of times since to find out how long I would have to try and get all the pictures in I have thought about and put off.   She told me I would get lots of warning.  No matter what direction she takes the sim I know it will be brilliant, but I will miss what it is today.

Yes, there is a point to my rambling, the picture above.  Fifteen years ago my grand father passed away.  The family all went home for the funeral, it seems the only time any of us see anyone anymore.  The day before the funeral, my father decided to go see the old homestead and run the back roads of the county.  He was in an usually talkative mood  that day, telling stories about places I had long forgotten about.  To put this in perspective, my family has deep rural roots…1 room school houses…going to church on Sunday meant coming outa the hills…and freedom or adventure meant catching the train at the side of the tracks.  Different world than today.  Anyway, we ended deep in the county behind my grandfather’s sugar bush and Pops pointed out what was left of the one room school house my grandfather had gone to.

I asked to stop to I could take a look around.  This is the ty6pe of thing that has always interested me.  The roof was gone, the doors or what was left, rotting on the ground, most of the windows too.  There were still a couple of one piece desks, the old black board was still on the wall and couple of piles of what looked like they had once been school books.  Not much really.

It had started snowing that day and it was beginning to cover up what was left.  I spent an hour walking around the old building, fighting with the alder bushes and taking pictures.  For me it was nostalgic, all the stories that I had been told by my grand parents about their young ‘n wild days, the family history and the quiet stories about how I really didn’t know it all…laughin’… the reminded me of all the times I had to admit my father and grandfathers and great grandfathers were right.  That still gets me to this day.  Sadly, that day there was not much left…..

…train to nowhere

Every so often i get a little stir crazy and the need to just go is almost over whelming.  Sometimes it simply means throwing a bag in the truck and just heading off…but lately i have been a little more nostalgic.  Might be my age, I don’t know, but the idea of a train trip seems to be pulling on me.  Something soothing about watching the world go by with the muted clickity-click of the wheels on the rails as the soundtrack.  There are things you will never see unless you ride the rails a little…undisturbed country side..the darker side of towns and cities…old warehouses and grain silos long forgotten…the beauty in an old one stop train station.

Yeah…laughin’…the nostalgia is running pretty thick today.  But i can still remember the day when the sound of a train brought a little excitement to small rural town and the thought of escape for those looking for something different.   Somethings never change, no mater where you are.

James Dean

It is the beginin’ of the month and time for TMD.  Now remember TMD is for the boys, so it has always been a 1 click TP in, grab the demos, wander a bit and head for the pose stand.   Not this time.  I click my LM…”region is currently full, try again in a few minutes”…huh?  I try again….same thing.  I look at the map and see 18 million green dots….seriously..this is my event…wtf!  Oops… sorry… language.

Anyway, after some stomping and pouting I eventually got there.  I had seen a preview of a new Cold Ash sweater that was being released at TMD for January and actually thought it was  sorta of cool…not exactly being a sweater and shirt guy.  It reminded me of a picture I had seen of James Dean back in the day.  Not sure if it was from East of Eden or Giant, regardless, it got me thinking…50’s movie poster…technicolour…now there might be a picture here.

….wandering

I don’t remember when or even how it started but over the years i have done most of my wandering early in the morning.  Particularly when I am traveling.  Nothing quite like wandering through a new place before the hustle and bustle of the day starts.  Catching the smells. sounds and sights of everything.

This is no different in SL.  I tend to do my wandering first thing in the morning.  whether it is shopping, a new event opening or simply touring about a sim I haven’t been to before.  Old habits I guess.

We have all seen him, well maybe in movies…the silent stranger…the brooding tough guy…  He looks like he just walked thru 50 miles of bad road.  It seems every girl wants to save him and most guys just wanna avoid him.  You wonder what he is thinking?  The answer…where can a guy get a decent breakfast in this town?
